Oh, the question of, “Mom can we have dessert?” Don’t they always want something sweet? Chef and I try do NOT do dessert every night. The last thing we want is for the habit to begin of always ending a meal with a sweet. Let me clarify, sweet meaning cookie or other typical kid treat. If they want fruit, I am happy to oblige with a natural sweet.
The other night the kids were awesome and tried a new meal that they didn’t love. They ate well and were thankful and I thought a nice dessert was in order.
Baked Apples
- Red apples, slice or chunked
- a touch of flour (whole wheat)
- a touch of sugar
- a touch of cinnamon
Mix all ingredients and sprinkle over the apples. Bake on 350 for 15-20 minutes or to desired texture. Ours were a bit crunchy on the outside and warm and soft on the inside(perfection). The kids went crazy over this and have asked for them every night since. Wonder if I could sprinkle oatmeal over top for a crunch–would they still eat it? Maybe if we add in a scoop of icecream on the side?!

This looks super yummy (and simple!). Definitely going to try it!
