Race Recap as promised…And you know, I believe pictures tell a story. So, here ya go!
Saturday morning, I woke up, drank a cup of coffee, ate Greek yogurt, and did a few warm up stretches. Off to Market Square Day the family went!
2,000 people of all ages lined up in downtown Portsmouth to run 6.2 miles. On your mark, get set, GO..and we bottlenecked outta there. I did my usual bob and weave through the crowds. Honestly, I can’t stand to be squished while running. Not too long after the start, we thinned out and turned a corner. My sweet family was on the side cheering me on and B snapped this picture!
Yep, that’s a fist pump! My signature.
We wound our way through town and the lulu girls were there cheering us on. LOVE THEM!
Came up on mile 1 and I was averaging 7:20. That is WAY too fast, for me, for a 6 mile run. Why do I love to shoot out of the gate like Speedy Gonzalez? I decided to slow a bit and keep a pace of 7:54-8:04. My breathing regulated and I felt GOOD! My earphones were driving me crazy, so I took them out and tucked them in my shirt. This was a FIRST for me. Music keeps me going, especially on a longer run. Good news, I found out that I can run without music!
The course was really scenic taking us through streets of people cheering us on. They blared music from their houses, turned on their sprinklers and held up signs. Mile 1 turned into 2 and 40ish minutes later I was seeing seeing mile 5.
I was running next to several people, through the last mile, and we encouraged each other to stay strong for the home stretch. I love community, don ‘t you?
Final time: 49:14. Pace 7:54 34/413 Females 277/2000 Overall
This is a DEFINITE for next year. AND look who I finally met??
Angela from Happy Fit Mama! She and I have crossed paths a million times and never met.
Look at our race bibs: she was 1554 and I was 1555. Meant to MEET!
Questions of the Day:
What is your favorite race distance?
Do you run with or without music?

SO fun that you met Angela and that your race bibs were 1 number off haha. And way to go!!! You are so speedy!
Thanks!!
Wow, what a great time. You did great! I’d love to do a bigger race. I’ve pretty much stuck to small ones. Even though the bottlenecks would slow me down, I think all the people would really pump me up!
Thanks for the compliment! Bigger races really bring the energy. It is fun to see all of those who come out and support the racers, too!
Congrats! Awesome time! I’ve only ever run one race, which was the 10K just a few weeks ago! I had a blast!
I love running with music
I love the Market Square Race! It is such a fun day and so many people are out running around! Good race, great pace!
Great time! Looks like a great race!!
That is rock star status… and I LOVE YOUR FIST PUMP!
And yes, those bibs totally make you destiny friends. Great race, great recap… and oh, my favorite distance is the Half. It’s long enough to test your endurance, but also one to open up the “speedy gonzales” legs and fly.
Destiny Friends..I like that!
Great job!!
I always run without music, I never have run with it actually. I’m glad that you were able to run the race without it!
I was glad to see I could do it!
Fist Pump – no words!
Awesome job – you rocked Market Square’s face off!
No music for me except on the treadmill. I never ran without it prior to kids but now my brain needs the quiet and my own thoughts. The funny thing is that I usually sing a few songs in my head or out loud during the run!
I was honestly glad to be unplugged! Now to try another race with no music!
congrats on an awesome race!
Thanks!!!
Yay for the fist pump and great time!!!
Thanks! Fist pump seems to be in all of my pictures!
