- a NON meat eater
Let me repeat this: a NON meat eater. I cannot tell you how much frustration and confusion this has caused us over the last 7, almost 8, years of his life. We have fed him every kind of meat we can think of: deli, ground beef, steak, chicken, fish, hotdogs (blech). Creativity has become our middle name to trying to entice him with what we like…results? He will eat chicken nuggets and fish sticks and taco meat, sometimes. Please know that I am not a short order cook! Chef and I have always (almost always) told our children that “you get what you get and you don’t pitch a FIT.” Anyway, we have given ketchup, ranch dressing, sour cream and other toppings for the meals and my sweet child still chokes down the food being served.
With that being said, if I say, “Pick your favorite meal for tonight.” He will answer, “Can we have veggie night?”
You give this kid any type of vegetable and he will try it with a smile. Green Beans, broccoli, tomatoes, edamame, salad, corn, kale, spinach, beans, potatoes..you name it, he wants it. Guess we could have worse issues?!
So, here are the questions: Do I think my kid is a vegetarian? Do I stop serving meat altogether? The answers: no and no. However, I am accepting the fact that I am not going to force him to eat a turkey sandwich or piece of beef. Do I think that he could wake up one day and want a hamburger? For sure. My thoughts, for now, are to lean more towards veggies and alternative proteins. Peanut Butter, eggs, beans, cheese, still chicken from time to time, and fish–he ate some the other night. Do I try tofu? (that kills Chef Mosley)
Do you have a person in your family that can’t stand the taste of meat or are you vegetarian family? What are your suggestions??
